Central FL Water Restrictions Extended to March 2027

October 22, 2026

If you were hoping to go back to your normal watering schedule this fall, it’s not happening yet. The Southwest Florida Water Management District has extended its Phase III water shortage order through March 31, 2027. That means homes and businesses in Lakeland, Tampa, Plant City, Brandon, and Wesley Chapel can still water lawns only one day per week, whether the water comes from the city, a private well, or a pond. Lakeland is also enforcing the rules with fines: $50 for a first violation, $200 for a second, and $500 after that.

  • Know your day and hours. Check lakelandgov.net/Restrictions.
  • Water deeply. Longer, less frequent watering grows deeper, stronger roots.
  • Check your sprinklers. Fix broken heads and spray hitting the sidewalk.
  • Add mulch. 2 to 3 inches holds moisture in the soil.
  • Mow higher. Taller grass handles dry weather better.
  • Pick Florida-friendly plants. Coontie, firebush, and muhly grass need little water.
